Performing Arts

At DCPS we run a well-balanced Performing Arts program encompassing the areas of dance, music, singing, drama and the use of media as a tool for recording and showing off our performances.

We begin our learning in the junior years where we focus on concepts of beat, pitch (high and low), dynamics (Loud and soft) and tempo (fast and slow). Children use percussion instruments to experiment with these concepts.

We have developed and are continuing to develop our senior school curriculum using the Musical Futures program. The concept being ‘do first and learn later’. This concept allows students to have a go at everything and find their likes and talents in each of the areas. Apart from the areas already mentioned they have the opportunity to experience the following:

Beatboxing

Rapping

Creating backing tracks

Acapella

Recorder

Our program is also complemented with a dance concert every second year, involvement in the Victorian State School Spectacular Massed Choir every year, Christmas Carol Performances and private music tuition run by Junior Rockers.

Our aim is to promote self-esteem and confidence, and a positive attitude to learning through our Performing Arts Program.
